Re-registration when renewing smartphone

If you have registered only apps such as Microsoft Authenticator as the authentication method, you may not be able to authenticate if you change your smartphone. If you are unable to authenticate, follow the steps below. If you registered the phone number as the authentication method before changing the mobile phone, you can authenticate as it is if the phone number is the same.

If only the smartphone application is registered as an MFA method 

  1. Register your mobile phone number as an authentication method. This phone number will be used as a way to authenticate on behalf of the registered authentication app.
    Please go to “Alternate Phone Number Registration” page and register your primary mail address and mobile phone number.

  2. After registering your mobile number, sign in to Microsoft 365 as you normally would.

  3. On the screen where you are prompted by MFA, click “I can’t use my Microsoft Authencicator app right now”.

  4. The phone number registered in the previous step will be displayed, so select “text” or “call”.

  5. After signing in to Microsoft 365, add your new smartphone information and change “Default sign-in method”.

  6. After registering the information for your new smartphone, please delete the old information.
    Click “delete” displayed to the right of the information you want to delete. delete old information
