MFA Instructional Video “MFA for Microsoft 365 at Kyushu University”

Why Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Is Now Required for All Users

In recent years, account misuse caused by password leaks has become a serious issue. Our university has also experienced security incidents, including phishing attacks that led to account information being leaked and used to send spam. As cyberattacks become more sophisticated, passwords alone are no longer enough to protect accounts. To strengthen security, we now require all users to use MFA.

How to Use MFA

To use MFA, you’ll need to register an additional method of identity verification (MFA Information). Please follow the steps outlined in the Registering MFA Information to complete the setup.

Note: Once MFA is enabled, it cannot be turned off. This is to prevent unauthorized changes to your MFA information. Make sure you fully understand the process before proceeding.

When MFA Is Prompted

MFA is prompted when Microsoft detects unusual or suspicious activity during sign-in. You can update this setting at any time using the form below:

  • MFA Settings List
    • Default: MFA is prompted only when a sign-in is considered highly suspicious, such as from an unusual location.
    • Option 1: MFA is always prompted when signing in from outside Kyushu University’s campus network.
    • Option 2: MFA is always prompted, regardless of the sign-in location.
