Set Up MFA Information with App (Microsoft Authenticator)


To use multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Microsoft 365, we recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator app on a mobile device. Please follow the steps below to complete the registration.

*This procedure requires both a PC and a mobile device (such as a smartphone or tablet). If you do not have access to a PC, please follow this procedure.

Instructions:


  1. [PC] Access https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info on your PC.

  2. [PC] If the sign-in screen appears, enter your Kyushu University primary email address (…..@m.kyushu-u.ac.jp) and click “Next.”
    Then, enter your SSO-KID and password, and click “Sign in.”

  3. [PC] The next steps depend on the screen displayed.

    • If the screen shows “Let’s keep your account secure”, Click “Next”.

    • If the “Security info” screen appears, Click “Add sign-in method”, then choose “Microsoft Authenticator”.

  4. [PC] When the following screen appears, install the app on your mobile device.

    • For iPhone:
      [Mobile] Open the App Store.

    • For Android:
      [Mobile] Open the Play Store.

      [Mobile] Tap the search icon at the bottom and search for “Microsoft Authenticator.”

  5. [PC] After the app installation is complete, return to your PC and click “Next.”

  6. [PC] Click “Next”.

  7. [PC] The QR code screen will appear.

  8. [Mobile] Open the “Microsoft Authenticator” app on your mobile device that you installed earlier.

  9. [Mobile] If the following screen appears, tap “Continue.”

  10. [Mobile] The next steps depend on the screen displayed.

    • Case A:
      If either of the screens below appears, tap “Scan QR code.”
      If the app asks for permission to access your camera or send notifications, please allow it.

    • Case B:
      If the following screen appears, tap the “+” icon in the upper-right corner, select “Work or school account,” and then tap “Scan QR code.”

  11. Scan the QR code displayed on your PC using your mobile device.

  12. [Mobile] When your Kyushu University primary email address appears in the app, pairing was successful.

  13. [PC] Return to your PC and click “Next.”

  14. When you launch “Microsoft Authenticator” on your mobile device, a screen saying “Are you trying to sign in?” will appear. Enter the number shown on your PC and tap “Yes.”

  15. [PC] “Authenticator Added” screen will appear (it may take a few seconds for the screen to update). Click “Done.”
