Set Up MFA Information with Authenticator App (WinAuth)


This page explains how to register the WinAuth desktop authenticator app for Windows as your MFA information.

Step 1: Preparation


  1. Open the link below on your PC, and click “WinAuth 3.5.1” to download it:

  2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click it and select “Extract All” to unzip the files.

  3. After extracting the files, installation is complete. Proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Registration


  1. Access https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info on your PC.

  2. If the sign-in screen appears, enter your Kyushu University primary email address (…..@m.kyushu-u.ac.jp) and click “Next.”
    Then, enter your SSO-KID and password, and click “Sign in.”

  3. The next steps depend on the screen displayed.

    • If the screen shows “Let’s keep your account secure”, Click “Next”.

    • If the “Security info” screen appears, Click “Add sign-in method”, then choose “Microsoft Authenticator”.

  4. Click “Set up a different authentication app."

  5. Click “Next."

  6. A QR code will appear. Click “Can’t scan the QR code?”.

  7. The following screen will be displayed:

  8. From here, switch to the WinAuth app you downloaded earlier. Open the folder you extracted earlier and double-click “WinAuth.exe”.

  9. When this screen appears, click “Add” → “Microsoft”(not “Authenticator”).

  10. The following screen will be displayed:

  11. Copy the “Secret key” from the browser (Step 7) and paste it into field “7” in WinAuth.

  12. Click “8. Verify Authenticator.”

  13. If a 6-digit one-time password appears under “9. Enter the following code to verify it is working”, click “OK.”

  14. The “Protection” screen will appear. Uncheck “Protect with my password” and click “OK.”
    *This setting determines whether a password is required when launching WinAuth.

  15. A 6-digit one-time password will be displayed.

  16. Return to the browser and click “Next.”

  17. Enter the 6-digit code shown in WinAuth into the “Enter code” field in your browser, then click “Next”.
    *The password expires quickly. If it disappears, click the refresh button to display a new code.

  18. When the following screen appears, the registration is complete. Click “Done.”
