Set Up MFA Information with App (Microsoft Authenticator) – When a PC is not available

This page explains how to register the Microsoft Authenticator using only a mobile device.

Instructions:

1. Install Microsoft Authenticator on the mobile device you normally use.

   • For iPhone:
     ① Open the App Store.
     
     ② Search “Microsoft Authenticator”.
     
     ③ Tap “Get”.
     
     ④ Tap “Install.”
     
     

   • For Android:
     ① Open the Play Store.
     
     ② Tap the search icon at the bottom and search for “Microsoft Authenticator.”
     
     ③ Tap “Install.”
     
     

2. Open the “Microsoft Authenticator” app.
   

3. If the following screen appears, tap “Continue.”
   

4. The next steps depend on the screen displayed.

   • Case A:
     If either of the screens below appears, tap “Add work or school account.”
     

   • Case B:
     If the following screen appears, tap the “+” icon in the upper-right corner, select “Work or school account,” and then tap “Sign in.”
     

5. Enter your Kyushu University primary email address (…..@m.kyushu-u.ac.jp) and click “Next.”
   Then, enter your SSO-KID and password, and click “Sign in.”
   

6. Tap “Open browser”.
   If the screen below does not appear, refer to “If Step 6 does not appear”
   
   

7. A browser will open and the sign-in screen will be displayed. Enter your Kyushu University primary email address (…..@m.kyushu-u.ac.jp) and tap “Next.”
   Then, enter your SSO-KID and password, and tap “Sign in.”
   

8. Tap “Next”.
   
   

9. Tap “Next”.
   

10. Tap “Pair your account to the app by clicking this link.”
    If a message appears asking, “Open in Authenticator?”, tap Open.
    

11. The app will launch. If prompted to allow camera access or notifications, please grant permission.
    When your Kyushu University primary email address appears in the app, pairing was successful.
    

12. Return to the browser and tap “Next”.
    

13. Tap “Approve sign-in?” and the app will launch.
    Enter the number displayed in the browser into the app and then tap “Yes”.
    

14. Return to the browser. “Authenticator Added” screen will appear (it may take a few seconds). Tap Done.
    

If Step 6 does not appear:

1. If you have already registered other MFA information, Step 6 will not appear. Instead, you will be asked to verify your identity.
   Please follow the instructions shown on the screen to complete the verification.
   
2. Tap “Continue” on the left screen. When the next screen appears (shown on the right), tap “Done” to complete the setup.
